Introduction to Poultry Farming

Poultry Production is popular amongst rural people. It gives them the opportunity to generate a good income from a small piece of land.

The given requirement of poultry farming is hygiene. The learner needs to learn the basics of hygiene and some housing arrangements. To be able to subsist they will need about 20 chickens to start with.

The cost of batteries is exorbitant for egg production. Batteries are important where there is a shortage of space and there is excessive pressure on production. The intensive broiler production is a health hazard if not carefully managed. The result being that more than likely they will have excessive mortality.

The recommendation is that we develop range chickens that have been improved by selective breeding and can be managed easily.
