Quick Overview

  • ECD is currently defined as the provision of physical, emotional, social, spiritual and moral development for children aged between zero and nine years in a structured way.
  • ECD is essential for assisting children’s transition to formal schooling; it is also pivotal to the identification of children at risk from learning difficulties and social, behavioural and health problems.
  • It is also the foundation of any further education and training development of each person and therefore the most important phase of people development.

What is Early Childhood Development?

In the years leading up to the first democratic elections in 1994 the term ‘educare’ was adopted as it encapsulated the ideological belief that the care of young children should involve more than the mere act of keeping watch over children. It should rather include the creation of safe, nurturing environments in which children receive care and educational stimuli in a holistic model which caters for all their physical, developmental, emotional and cognitive needs. ECD is currently defined as the provision of physical, emotional, social, spiritual and moral development for children aged between zero and nine years in a structured way.

Not only is ECD essential for assisting children’s transition to formal schooling, but it is pivotal to the identification of children at risk from learning difficulties and social, behavioural and health problems.

It is also the foundation of any further education and training development of each person and therefore the most important phase of people development.

How Will Participants Be Equipped?

To ensure that the participants are equipped to start a new career, we present the following:

  • During the six months participants will be equipped with the National Certificate in Early Childhood Development on NQF level 4 if they have matric or
  • a skills programme of 15 unit standards from the National Certificate in Early Childhood Development on NQF level 4.

The following additional programmes will also be added to equip them to start their own business:

  • Bright Star Personal Development and Leadership Programme

Training will be started with module 1 of the Bright Star Personal Development and leadership programme which will assist the participants to ensure that they choose a field for their new venture that is in-line with their dreams and passion.

  • Entrepreneurial Skills

A major challenge for people starting their own business is entrepreneurial skills. Most people have a professional background and professional qualifications but they lack skills in running a business. During the project we would also like to expose the participants to another 3-day course which will assist them with various business skills. Participants will walk out of this course with a completed business plan that they will be able to use to start their new business.

  • Teaching Aids and Lesson Plans

From our current experience with ECD training, it has become very clear that Practitioners struggle to put theory into practice due to the lack of resources.  We would therefore like to incorporate a complete programme consisting of a manual for Practitioners with lesson plans consisting of themes and activities for one year as well as some teaching aids that are needed to facilitate this program.  Everything will be packed into a durable container to make transport easy for the participant.  Resources will also be in such a format that it can be used without electricity and technology. Each Practitioner will therefore have the necessary resources available during theoretical lessons to ensure maximum impact and the application of theory.
